Beetle buzzed right into the kitchen screens. An easy identification for once!
I saw this lone guy crossing a pathway. He was pretty sizable for a beetle in this part of New Jersey, about an inch long or so.
Monkey beetles are a group of scarab beetles, comprising the subfamily Rutelinae, and are placed within the tribe Hopliini. Many species visit flowers for pollen and nectar, or browse on the petals.
