An Oyster Toadfish in the channel connecting Potter and Pt. Judith Ponds. It was using a cavity under a piece of wood. Found it the day before, but didn't have my camera, thankfully it was still there today (perhaps a male guarding a nest). I hear them often, but this was the first I actually found.
These bruisers were everywhere! Apparently the spots are luminescent. Do I regret not testing this? Yes. Yes I do.
This frogfish was absolutely bizzare - caught using shrimp as bait in the mangroves.
The toadfish comprise the family Batrachoididae, the only family in the ray-finned fish order Batrachoidiformes. Both the English common name and scientific name refer to their toad-like appearance (batrakhos is Greek for frog).
