Found on ground beneath slippery elm trees. Seemed to be dead so placed in petri dish for later observation. Later, noticed activity and frass and recorded observation.
My 5 yo daughter found this caterpillar in our drive way. We think it was playing dead. We left it alone for a bit and was gone when we came back.

Not good photos, I'm afraid. About the size as a large carpenter bee, which is what I thought it might be before the photos were developed. It has yellow on the abdomen and orange antennae, and feet. Looks like this one: http://bugguide.net/node/view/1104791/bgimage
In an American Elm tree (of course). I found an Elm Sawfly larvae in the area below this tree last year, so they must like the tree/area.
