This one has me stumped. Though a bad shot for ID I could swear I've seen that pattern on the abdomen before. My first thought was Pale-faced club skimmer that that's not it. Setwings also don't seem to match.
Any hints or ID's most welcome!
My brother and I have noticed that when Dythemis velox are in hand they almost seem to play dead...become still and sometimes draw limbs inward. It has happened consistently (with behavior occurring at least one time) after more than 30 captures in widely disparate locations.
Has anyone else experienced this potential defense behavior?
First county record ...Pinal county
Headed down to the Master Naturalist State conference a day early to make a few iNatting spots along the way. :) I'm an addict, of course!
I stopped at this nature park in Lampasas too -- it really is quite nice!
Female. Came and landed right in front of me and was very patient while I took a bunch of closeup portraits.
