Paco’s Reserva de Flora y Fauna & iNaturalist

A few months ago, in a blog post about the 2019 CNC in Mazatlan, Mexico, I wrote “I’m working on another video that’s focused more on Paco’s Reserva and their use of iNaturalist - hopefully it’ll be done sooner rather than later.”

Well, it turned out to be later, and I apologize, but here's the video. It features interviews with founder and owner Francisco “Paco” Farriols Estrada (@francisco3_tutor), director Francisco “Paco 2” Sarabia (@pacof), and administrator Diego Barrales Alcalá (@d_b) about ADVC Paco´s Reserva de Flora y Fauna and how iNaturalist/Naturalista.mx is used at the reserve. They’ve created a project which can be found here

I’d like to thank them for granting me these interviews, and for hosting us at the reserve this past April. I’ve had the privilege of meeting quite a few iNatters from around the world throughout the past year and everyone’s generosity, knowledge, and enthusiasm is truly amazing.

The interviews are in Spanish, and English subtitles are available if you click on the “CC” button.

If anyone out there uses iNat in their park or private reserve, it would great to hear about your experiences. What works and what needs improvement? Any cool success stories?

Great job, Tony ! We 've had terrific days in Mazatlan thanks to iNaturalist . Meeting people with the same love and interest for Nature is something to keep deep in your heart forever .

Brings back great memories. I encourage anyone with a curious mind to visit this place. Mazatlan is a beautiful city and Paco Sr. and his team are great ambassadors to it’s wildlife.

This is super exciting @francisco3_tutor ! My relationship to iNaturalist wouldn't be the same without all the great things always being found at Paco’s Reserva de Flora y Fauna. Maybe someday I can get the chance to actually visit :)

My hat's off to Paco Farriols Sr. and Jr. who rescued an important area of Mazatlan to create Paco's Reserva de Flora. Their project is exemplary and a treasure for future generations.

Recently visited the Reserva. What a treat, and so glad I got to meet Paco Jr. It's heartening to see him carrying on the work of his father.

Love, love, love this story. I recently did a lecture about adding native plants to urban yards to mitigate habitat fragmentation and used iNat data to show the difference between the biodiversity at a preserve nearby compared to the urban yards. Very powerful. iNat rocks!

I moved to Mazatlan one month ago from Canada. I found iNaturalist website, then followed francisco3_tutor when I found his observations to be the most current, and relevant to the flora and fauna I was seeing in the Cerritos area. Then I found Paco's Reserva site, and I cannot wait to visit! Keep up the good work! See you soon!
