Amazing to find this species in full bloom. Abundant along track edges. Photos show variety of color and form. This imagine shows the close association with Drosera auriculata. Weather this is chance or the orchid or Drosera is using one another to attract a pollinator is of interest. It should be noted that Caladenia alata, C. atradenia and Thelymitra carnea where all noted in flower on the Island.

I am happy to debate my ID... but based on first thoughts I am going with this species. Dark and rather short dorsal sepal tip pointing downwards. Lateral sepals also reduced and darkly colored. Lone specimen with many P. agathicola approx. 100m away.

A very interesting find. Observed whilst looking at Caladenia alata. What I presume is a premature flower... It seems the name precocious is the best term I can find at the moment. Based on what has formed it would likely fit somewhere in the T. vernosa/T ixiodes with the spotted petals and very fleshy leaves (almost cylindrical). Possibly flowering brought on by a sudden rise in temperature! Interested to see if anyone else has observed this in NZ orchids?
