Description

Dependent fledges; well within the subspecies distribution. From the Cornell Birds of North America species account following Grinnell and Phillips: C. g. polionotus (Grinnell, 1918). Breeds e.-central California east to nw. Utah (Pine Valley Mts.) and n. Arizona [type locality = Wyman Creek, White Mts., Inyo Co., California]; winters in montane w. Mexico, generally north of the trans-volcanic belt, and, possibly, Baja California Sur (this subspecies or C. g. auduboni occurs in pine-oak woodland above 1200 m in the Sierra de la Laguna; Unitt and Estrella 1996). Like C. g. sequoiensis, but averages larger, mantle paler, rufous uppertail coverts duller, flanks paler, and crissum white.
