In heavily grazed roadside habitat in partial shade of a small building. Numerous apparent mite-induced galls on the leaves. Mostly herbaceous, several branching stems and about 1 m tall.
Fruit look much like a conifer cone.
Apparently well defended against ubiquitous goats.
These two males continued fighting for possession of this window sill for over an hour!
ID a guess. Bunch grass very resistant to grazing pressure - common along highway margins at upper elevations.
