A flock of these close to the Poor Knights. The NZBirds Online site says:
The sole breeding grounds for Buller’s shearwaters are the Poor Knights Islands off Tutukaka, northern New Zealand. (There is a single record of a nest being found on Simmonds Islands, Henderson Bay, Far North.)

I may have to go and have a nosey on that island :)

It had "disco lights" that would light up every now and again and flash and ripple on the "string line" - a few photos have some of the lights turned on.

Shokcing photo I know, but this fish was in a clef between the rock face and a rock outcrock. Tidal surge was strong so each time the surge rose and pushed me towards the wall I took a photo and this is the only one that is more than blurred. We could see the fish well, so this is why I am guessing this species but the photo frm from A Photographic Guide to Sea Fishes of NZ by Wade Doak, Pg 72
