Not sure if this blue thing is a sponge or a sea squirt as I have never seen this colour before.

Finally managed to find one of these not swimming through the stems of the Ecklonia radiata.

Out in the G2 at The Rock as it was an extremely low tide. The Rock has so much life there and is hidden behind Ecklonia radiata and a place I always visit on the very low tides. I was pushing the E.radiata away to see what was in the crevices and ledges that are all over The Rock and spotted the head and even though I do not know fish all that well I immediately knew this was one of the morays that live around here. Naturally it was in a place where the water was surging and lots of debris to make photographing difficult but no way was I gong to miss this opportunity to get photos of this! Wrapping a hand around the stalks of E.radiata and finding a foothold to lock my boots and feet in place I was not pushed around too much.

With the help of @indeynz who helped to keep the weed out of the way and 45 minutes of lurking at that one spot I finally managed to get these good photos - we won't talk about all of the ones that had pretty patterns of debris showing clearly *LOL*

The tide was on its way out and initially this spot was in about 700mm of water but by the time we finished the level had dropped to about 400mm of water.

Had to laugh as I see that most of the obs for this from NZ are from the Poor Knights in Arches etc and the others are mainly from off shore islands.

Just goes to show what a wonderful place I live in where I can find one of these snorkeling in shallow water!

I am sure this is not Ophionereis fasciata as the back of the disk is very different as can be seen in the photos showing that.

Found in the shallow subtidal under a rock in the G2. It moves differently from O.fasciata

the red marks on the gloves are 10mm apart.
