Description

Anderson Lake's snags are often covered in Pileated Woodpecker holes. Their drumming is loud and the sound carries, but it's hard to see one. This male flew around us from tree to tree, tapping away.

This 2" larva was under a piece of bark on a fallen tree. Might it be the same beetle species that was a foot away under the same piece of bark, as shown in the second photo?

Description

The frogs were singing loudly in two small ponds, as well as on Anderson Lake. I saw one, took this photo, and then realized there were two.
