The molt of a young 1.5" Telmessus cheiragonus (Helmet Crab). I found two today. It's rare to find a live Helmet Crab; maybe they live in deeper water?

Description

Alaria marginata (Broad-winged Kelp) was the predominant kelp on the beach today, covering the sand, the rocks, and floating in the water at low tide. Most fronds were small, just 2-3' long, but a few were older and 8' long.

Description

I think these are the syphons of Penitella penita (Flat-tip Piddock) emerging from soft rock. I photographed some a few weeks ago out of water, with the syphons inside the rock. In some of the photos here you can see holes from others, maybe former piddocks.
