Description

Please slow down if you are by a forest. The Columbian black-tailed deer are abundant in this area, and this one must have been hit by a car yesterday. We are so sad to have this poor young doe suffering for the second night right beside our house, which is a few miles from downtown Port Townsend. I took this photo through the kitchen window. One leg appears broken, but somehow she stood up and hobbled off today, and just returned. The Humane Society and Fish & Wildlife won't help because there are just too many deer. They said to let nature take its course. She is still grazing. A friend told me of a three-legged deer in town that gave birth to three sets of twins. Maybe this doe will somehow survive.
