Description

The first Pycnopodia helianthoides (Sunflower Sea Star) I've found this year! It appeared healthy, about 16" across, with 21 arms, moving through the eelgrass.

Description

My friend pointed out Pista pacifica (Fringed-hood Spaghetti Worm), and we found three. I never would have known they were worms! They looked like the tattered ends of eelgrass washed ashore.

The beach was covered in dozens of empty Cancer magister (Dungeness Crab) shells. This poor 6" one had its body intact, but all the legs were gone. Thrown overboard by a crabber?
