Description
Morphologically keyed out as blackfin cisco (C. nigripinnis). Numbers captured during study in Lake Memesagamasing. Entered as C. artedi, consistent with current thinking that blackfins are an ecomorphotype.

Date is approximate. 3 individuals (2 males & 1 female) seen sometime in April, 1987. My mother and father (@dmpeterson ) were living in Monteverde in the spring of 1987, staying with the Gavin family. I have been digitizing their old slides, and thought these ones were significant, so I uploaded them. The date and location are approximate, based on their best recollection.

Description
Observed swimming slowly across open water before coming ashore on north back just upstream from Longhorn Dam. If you look closely at the photo you can tell that this is not a big Nerodia. Water moccasins are very buoyant when they swim and the head shape is not that of a watersnake. In my experience Nerodia, whether the local rhombifera or erythrogaster, swim with only the head/neck visible on the surface. This is the second water moccasin I have encountered while out on a field trip with my Field Biology Class. So neat to have the opportunity to show the students and tell them interesting things about this species and water snakes.

I friend of mine accidentally trapped a spotted skunk in her house in the Houston Heights area. Not sure if it’s an eastern or a western. We seem to be in the middle of the two ranges. Upon advice I helped her release the skunk into her yard where the skunk can in from. It fled into some bushes and then through her fence into an alley. This is a highly urban area about six miles out of downtown Houston.

The single most cutest wildlife experience I've had in recent years. Though the speed and small size of the things pretty much defeated me and the focus speed of my camera.
