I saw something attached to this goose. My (wild) guess is fresh water shrimp? (Gammarus lacustris)? But I really do not know.
I over exposed the second photo in the hopes it would highlight the attached critters. The mate of these goose did not have any visible hitchhikers.
Scud found along the edge of Echo Lake, beneath a softball sized rock.

I picked up a Dawn Redwood cone from by a stream, and this amphipod was in it.
Found in the opening of a small water pipe in the night. Shined the flashlight on it. Appeared to run away from the light and head into the dark part of the pipe.
Found under leaf litter on the edge of a tiny creek.
Substrate = red-throated loon
Found on side of tree stump
Black outlines along this shrimp's segments.
Shell is approx 2cm. Keyed it out to A. alternata in Burch, but I'm not confident, as the umbilicus seems too small.
