The highlight for me. These are so amazing. Totally transparent though, in the 2nd image the animal is center frame! (You can see the black eyes left and the tail right) It had a tail which trailed behind it and it would move around attacking salp.

Looks somewhat similar to a snakehead cowry (Monetaria caputserpentis) but the shape is off. Maybe a half-swimmer cowry(Staphylaea semiplota) or a honey cowry( Erosaria helvola) ?

I was talking with Adrian Paterson in my office when, to our huge surprise, this painted lady butterfly(European Small Tortoiseshell!!!) flew in through my open window. I've only seen three of these butterflies before in Canterbury, and never in the winter. Very odd!
