Boisé du parc du Mail : dans les années 1940 à 1960, ce boisé était beaucoup plus grand, à voir ici http://bit.ly/43vmr5h . Ce boisé est un minuscule vestige de l’ancienne forêt que les premiers colons conservaient au fond de leurs terres. Aussi, un affluent du ruisseau De Montigny traversait jadis la zone. Il y avait donc dans ce secteur un milieu humide que l’on a remblayé en partie. C’est surement uniquement pour cette raison que l’on a conservé ce boisé : trop humide pour s’y construire. Naguère, on nommait ce secteur : le bois d’Anjou. De nos jours, ce toponyme est attribué à un grand boisé beaucoup plus au nord : le parc-nature du Bois-d’Anjou. Je sais, c’est mélangeant ! À force de visiter des boisés urbains, j’ai remarqué que le caryer cordiforme s’adapte très bien à l’urbanisation. Au contraire de l’érable à sucre qui disparait graduellement. Il est malheureusement remplacé par l’érable de Norvège… On y trouve aussi une belle colonie d’érable argenté, ainsi qu’une ormaie-frênaie. Bizarrement, il y a beaucoup de marronniers, peut-être des vestiges d’une ancienne plantation. Je n’ai sélectionné que ceux qui semblaient être les rejetons des possibles arbres plantés. Évidemment, le verglas de la semaine dernière a brisé plusieurs branches des arbres, ce qui m’a tristement aidé à l’identification.

Une forte odeur de moufette au centre du boisé m’a obligé à n’en faire que le tour. Le boisé est excessivement sale, les citoyens du quartier ne semblent pas comprendre l’importance d’un tel ensemble de végétaux. On y trouve aussi beaucoup de déchets verts, donc une multitude d’espèces exotiques envahissantes y abonde, dont la petite pervenche. Une dame âgée m’a surveillé pendant toute ma visite : un bel exemple de la magnifique atmosphère qui règne à Anjou…

Edited: Heartleaf Paper Birch (Betula cordifolia). I had never considered this species and it is new to me. See thread below. I initially suggested Paper Birch (Betula papyrifera), stunted, centre of acid mine tailings dump, Centre Hill Mine Potter Mine, Munro Township, ON, Aug 14/21.

Building on @wasylbakowsky comment, I added 3 additional images that illustrate: a) the heart-shaped leaf base; b) what appear to be tiny resin glands on upper leaf surface; and c) possible resin glands dotted on twig. Do those help distinguish between Heartleaf paper birch (Betula cordifolia) and Paper birch (Betula papyrifera)?
