This male was one of several dozen individuals on one of the main stems of a dying lacebark. I counted nine male/female pairs, some with a third individual (sometimes a noticeably smaller female, sometimes a male) which was usually chased off by the male of the pair. I got enough video to be able to confirm that the females appeared to be ovipositing. In addition, there were an indeterminate number of lone individuals roaming the trunk.

A nice example of the colour morph known as Parsonia capsularis var. rosea. I am colour blind in the blue/red spectra and had trouble seeing this one's actual colour but my companion assured me that this plant had the darkest pink flowers that he had ever seen.

Parsonsia capsularis needs a modern taxonomic revision, while there are undoubted colour races, or which var. rosea is probably one, there are also potentially distinct taxonomic units within this species that could be teased out with diligent research. Until that is done it makes sense to retain the varieties currently in usage.

Interesting at this location 'pink-flowered' plants dominated but there were also occasional white ones. I doubt flower colour will be useful from a taxonomic view point.

This Parsonsia was locally common growing up through Coprosma crassifolia and C. propinqua s.l.
