Mrs. Cardinal doing me the favor of posing for a picture. I don't have a lot of observations of the females because they are better at hiding and seem more camera-shy than the males, but where there is a male there is usually a female nearby as well.

- Very large click beetle (over 1 inch) identified by the two black "false eyes" on the back of the thorax. Elongated black body with white speckles.
- Spotted on a log on the side of the greenway on campus.
- Order: Coleoptera; Family: Elateridae

Description
Found running around on a rotting log in a woodland on a muggy summer day.
Dolomedes albineus - Whitebanded Fishing Spider
bugguide.net/node/view/2028
Note white band across the face (clypeus), and mossy green color on abdomen, both distinctive marks for this species according to BugGuide. Although called a "fishing spider" I do not think these are particularly aquatic.
