I don't even know where to start. This looked like about a four inch caterpillar. It swam very well. This shot was taken from a boat in the Angelina River just north of Dam-B (Steinhagen Lake) in East Texas.

Tawny Emperor larvae. Photographed at Wilson Tract, Norfolk County, Ontario on 2 October 2019. A remarkable sight and thanks to Mary Gartshore for pointing them out. It was my mistake to label this as Hackberry Emperor and both Mary and Colin Jones have confirmed the true identity of these larvae as Tawny Emperor...

This was truly one of the most distinctive and bizarre creatures we saw on our trip. This large brown caterpillar (presumably of some moth) has bold yellow bands across each segment. The pink frizzy ornamentation on the head seemed to be permanent and not just a defensive organ displayed for a moment. This was found walking across a sidewalk near the boat launch area at Frontera Corozal.
