This is inside a storm water pond enclosure. I don't know if it was planted or self-sown. The latter seems unlikely given its usual distribution.

nothing suggest that it is planted, and the location is outside of the known range.

Best seen from the south side, and quite hard to reach.

Deceased for unknown reason. First two photos are in situ. I returned the turtle to its resting place after taking the plastron photo.

Based on odor, and the fact that a toe broke off when I moved it, this turtle had been dead for a few days at least. At least one more is in the area, as fresh tracks from another Blanding's Turtle led away from this spot:

Observed during fieldwork conducted under a research permit.

This was one of the more exciting incidental finds of the day. This is the first park record, and the easternmost record for this species in Ontario.

No search effort was made here. I casually moved one single log - really a thick branch - as @owenclarkin and I crossed a small stream in a ravine.

The second photo in the sequence is actually the first, in the cavity of the log. The grey colour and silt is from a marine clay (Leda clay) deposit that this stream was cutting through. The salamander then swam into the stream and posed on the stick in the first-in-sequence photo.

Warfare! Two ant colonies in battle, oblivious to their precarious location on a suburban sidewalk. The ants on the outside of the swarm were moving quickly and frantically, while the ants in the centre of the swarm were locked in wrestling matches with other ants. These ant wars are common in my neighborhood, and usually continue until after sundown. The same spot in the morning will probably have lingering workers carrying off the bodies of others that died in battle.
