Can a European birder confirm that the name Mealy Redpoll usually and most appropriately applies specifically to the subspecies, and NOT to Carduelis flammea as a whole?

Hi Reuven,
While not European, I did live there for over a decade. Mealy Redpoll would typically refer to the nominate subspecies. However, it is commonly used in the UK to cover the entire species, and that of course is the main English language nation. The BOU official list does call the species "Common Redpoll"

Right now the subspecies has common name "Mealy Redpoll" in iNat. Do you think this name should stay there or be moved to A. flammea?

My sense is Mealy is best set at the default name for the subspecies, and possibly a regional choice for the UK at the species level. I didn't live in the UK, so can't comment on if one is more popular than the other.
