new variety created

I'm not sure anyone really knows how to enter a variety of a subspecies. It is not a level in the inat system. I suspect you may be able to do it as a variety, but exactly where it will show up in the taxa tree, I am unsure.

Thank you for your sincere comment.
To tell the truth, I'm also very confused about how far I should do in iNat. For Japanese iNat users, it is inconvenient not to agree with the POWO scientific name because of disagreement the guide book. However, I also think that the extreme division of local variety is not in line with the purpose of iNat.

I dont want to be seen as giving suggestions one way or another, but one thing to consider is that if taxa are created that are only used in regional Japanese sources, then sightings identified to those, then these data will not be sharable with other institutions such as GBIF since there will be no taxonomic alignment.

How does GBIF export work? Would the data go through at the next highest-level taxon?

There isn't much call here for the old nesting of varieties within subspecies trick (though perfectly legal), and the iNat system isn't quite built for it. I think the way to do this would be to enter the new variety as "Saxifraga bronchialis rebunshirensis", set rank to "variety", and graft it to Saxifraga bronchialis ssp. funstonii as the parent.

@choess Thank you for checking this taxa.

Saxifraga bronchialis var. rebunshirensis is accepted name, and this var is named by the same literature I first proposed (J. Fac. Sci. Univ. Tokyo, sect. 3, Bot. 6: 65)

CoL annual ckecklist 2019 http://www.catalogueoflife.org/annual-checklist/2019/details/species/id/416047e753299d8a5baa7b54b6131291
YList (taxonomic status in Japan) http://ylist.info/ylist_detail_display.php?pass=3002

I'm not sure why the taxonomic status is different, but I want to give an ID in accordance with CoL anyway.
So, I will use external provider name below.

I really appreciated your discussion. If you don't have any problems, I'd like to be solved this flag.

Unfortunately, iNat won't let you graft a variety onto a subspecies. :( So much for my idea.

Something along the lines of the taxon has to be lower in the taxonomic hierarchy than its parent ? That's what I was worried about.

@cmcheatle When I adopted Saxifraga bronchialis var. rebunshirensis, I confirmed that this var is already used in GBIF occurrence records just in case.

If there is no occurrence records, I think we should decide more carefully, thank you.

@choess Thank you for changing flag status. If you have any comments about above idea, please tell us.
