connorcochrane Flickers and Allies (Genus Colaptes)

I would like to request to add a hybrid to the database. Gilded x Red-Shafted (Northern Flicker) or just Gilded x Northern Flicker. In the deserts of California, this is a common hybrid, and is often easier to find a hybrid than a pure gilded. Thanks!

Just seconding this request. This is a common hybrid combination that should be added to the database.

Can I get a vote on what people want? It sounds like when it comes to hybrids, iNat likes to keep the two parents on the same taxonomic level. Example, Northern Flicker (species) x Gilded Flicker (species) is what's recommended, but it sounds like mixed levels like Red-shafted Flicker (subspecies group) x Gilded Flicker is "wrong". See Audubon's x Townsend's Warbler flag. But realistically, what are the chances of Yellow-shafted x Gilded?

I think the issue is that something like "Colaptes auratus cafer x chrysoides" would make it seem like Gilded was a subspecies of Northern. I agree that Yellow-shafted x Gilded is unlikely (and probably unrecorded), but I think C. auratus x chrysoides is the way to do it in iNat.
