POWO has S. chrysocoma Dode as a syn of Salix × pendulina f. salamonii (Carrière) I.V.Belyaeva http://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/777315-1 and doesn't accept Salix × sepulcralis http://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:50923511-1

Salix × sepulcralis = S. alba × S. babylonica
Salix × pendulina = S. babylonica × ? (S. × fragilis or S. euxina)

I guess if S. × fragilis is assumed to be a parent, then S. × sepulcralis fits into it?

@tiggrx @sedgequeen @bobwardell since you're top observers/identifiers I figured I'd tag you so you're aware of the potential change.

Salix x fragilis = Salix alba x S. euxina
Salix x sepulcralis = Salix alba x S. babylonica
Salix x pendulina = Salix babylonica x S. euxina

According to FNA.

The most recent paper that POWO cites is https://www.researchgate.net/publication/327728134_The_application_of_scientific_names_to_plants_in_cultivation_Salix_vitellina_L_and_related_taxa_Salicaceae

Which from what I can tell it designates the type of the taxon and says one form (S. x p. pendulina) is S. alba × S. babylonica × S. euxina, and another form (S. x p. salamonii) is S. babylonica × S. × fragilis f. vitellina.

Well, you know more about it than I do now.

@spins adding you since I've tagged the other top IDers earlier.

Fine to commit this change to match POWO? https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/87985
