Cottonmouth (aka Water Moccasin)

Agkistrodon piscivorus

Summary 2

Cottonmouths are apparently restricted to sites immediately along the Medina River in far south and west edges of the county and also along Cibolo creek in the far northeastern corner of the county. These is a single iNat record from along Leon Creek as well.

They are apparently absent from most of the county. Most reports of cottonmouths in the city outside of those areas are misidentified harmless watersnakes.
