Broad-banded Copperhead

Agkistrodon laticinctus

Summary 2

The Broad-banded Copperhead is a common snake in some parts of Bexar County (the southeastern and western edges) but uncommon in other parts of the county (north east and central areas). In the western parts of the county is generally found in moist wooded canyons in the hill country. In the east it is more common in wooded areas as well.
It was formerly known as a subspecies of the wider range copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix) but many authorities now regard the Broad-banded Copperhead as a separate species snake (Agkistrodon laticinctus).
