• Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Opposite
• Flower: White rounded cluster
• Leaves: egg-shaped, 1½-3 inches long, 1-2 inches wide, coarsely toothed, tapered to pointed tip, rounded base, underside hairy
• Bark: brown/grey, smooth
• Fruit/Seed: egg-shaped berry, ¼-1/2 inch diameter, purple/black
• Height: 6-10 feet
• Flowering: May - June
• Habitat: hardwood and mixed forest understory, thickets
