Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub
Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Whorled
Flower: cone, oval, yellowish, 1/10-1/8 inch long, male and female on separate plants
Leaves: flattened needle in whorls of 3, ¼-1/2 inch long
Bark: new twigs yellow, mature bark gray/brown and shredding
Fruit/Seed: round berry-like cone, ¼-1/3 inch diameter, yellow/green-blue/black
Height: 2-5 feet
Flowering: May - June
Habitat: prairies, savanna, forest clearings, rocky slopes, outcrops, dunes
