• Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
• Flower: Pink simple shaped, 5 petals
• Leaves: compound, 5-9 leaflets, leaflets 1-1 ½ inches long and 2/3-1 inch wide, rounded tip, serrated edges
• Bark: young stems green and lack prickles, mature stems red/brown-gray and covered in uneven prickles
• Fruit/Seed: berry-like fruit – rose hips, bright red, ½-3/4 inch diameter
• Height: 4-7 feet
• Flowering: June - July
• Habitat: open prairie, woodland edges, fence rows, lakeshores, thickets
