Description ²

• Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
• Flower: Minute yellow/green star shaped
• Leaves: oval, bluntly pointed tip, 2-4 ½ inches long, ¾-2 ¼ inches wide, rounded teeth, 5-8 obvious veins per side
• Bark: thin, roughish, red/brown-gray
• Fruit/Seed: shiny, black berry, 1/3 inch diameter
• Height: 2-3 feet
• Flowering: May - June
• Habitat: shady bogs, fens, lake edges
