Shape: Tree
Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
Flower: cone-like structure, male; cylindrical, 1/3-1/2 inch long, yellow/brown, female; erect, egg shaped, ½ inch long, purple
Leaves: evergreen, square needles, ¼-1/2 inch long, blunt tip
Bark: grey/brown, thin flaky scales
Fruit/Seed: egg-shaped cone, ½-1 ¼ inch long, hanging from tips of twigs, scales with rounded and irregularly toothed edges
Height: 30-50 feet
Flowering: June
Habitat: northern swamps and bogs
