Shape: Tree
Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
Flower: elongated cluster – catkin, hang from leaf axils, 1-3 ½ inches long, males with tiered red stamens, females with long red stigmas, male and female flowers on separate trees
Leaves: round, large rounded teeth, 2-4 inches long, 1 ¾-3 ½ inches wide
Bark: young bark gray/green and smooth, older bark gray/brown and furrowed
Fruit/Seed: green, narrowly round capsule which releases cottony seed
Height: 50-95 feet
Flowering: April - May
