• Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Opposite
• Flower: Pink-purple bell shaped
• Leaves: evergreen, ½-1 ¾ inches long, 1/8-1/2 inch wide, little-no leaf stalk, edges roll under, upper surface green and lower surface whitish
• Bark: grey, smooth
• Fruit/Seed: red,5-chambered round capsule, ¼ inch diameter, long erect pistil at top
• Height: 6-30 inches
• Flowering: May - June
• Habitat: bogs, acidic lakeshores, fens, muskeg
