• Shape: Understory tree
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
• Flower: White simple shaped, 5 petals
• Leaves: oval with pointed tip, 2-3 ½ inches long, ¾-1 ½ inches wide, shallow rounded teeth
• Bark: shiny red/brown-gray, conspicuous horizontal lenticels, peels in horizontal strips
• Fruit/Seed: shiny, bright red cherry, ¼ diameter
• Height: 20-35 feet
• Flowering: May - June
• Habitat: open woods, forest edges and openings
