Shape: Small tree
Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
Flower: White rounded cluster
Leaves: 6-10 inches long, pinnately compound, 11-19 leaflets, leaflets; oblong, 1 ½-3 inches long, 3/8-3/4 inch wide, pointed tip, sharply toothed
Bark: gray-bronze, smooth but develop plates that eventually peel off
Fruit/Seed: cluster of ¼ inch, bright red berries
Height: 10-30 feet
Flowering: June - July
Habitat: cool forest, swamps, stream banks, forest edges, rocky shores, bluffs
Other: Easily confused with Sorbus decora
