Leaves: leathery, elongated oval shaped, ¾-1 ½ inches long, ¼-1/2 inch wide, finely toothed
Bark: brown, scaly, finely hairy, turns gray with fine exfoliating texture
Height: 12-40 inches
Flowering: April - June
Habitat: bogs, peatlands, swampy streambanks in coniferous forests
