Shape: Small shrub
Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
Flower: Green/pink elongated cluster
Leaves: palmately lobed, 3-5 primary lobes, 1 ½-3 ½ inches long, 2-4 inches wide, coarsely toothed, prominent veins
Bark: smooth, reddish brown, thin outer layer peels away
Fruit/Seed: shiny, smooth, bright red berry ¼-3/8 inch in diameter
Height: 1-3 feet
Flowering: May - June
Habitat: bogs, coniferous woods, stream banks, seeps
