Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub
Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
Flower: elongated cluster – catkin, yellow/green, 1-4 inches long, male and female on different plants
Leaves: elongated oval, long pointed tip often with tail-like extension, 2-5 inches long, 2-6 times longer than wide, finely toothed
Bark: grey, furrowed with flat ridges
Fruit/Seed: elongated cluster of pear-shaped capsules, green
Height: 13-65 feet
Flowering: May - June
Habitat: shores, river banks, floodplains, marshes, swales
