The green heron (Butorides virescens) is a small heron of North and Central America. Butorides is from Middle English butor "bittern" and Ancient Greek -oides, "resembling", and virescens is Latin for "greenish".
Green Herons can be found phishing along the banks or in the middle of the creek. They are really small and blend in very well with the foliage of the creek so they are easy to miss you are not looking carefully.
