Bronzed Tiger Beetle

Cicindela repanda

Description 2

Cicindela repanda (Bronzed or Common Shore Tiger Beetle) is common in appropriate habitat on Martha's Vineyard. It occurs mainly along brackish shorelines (e.g., around the Great Ponds) and also on steep slopes near the shore, where it can overlap with C. hirticollis. Key field marks include the foremost marking on the wing, which curves to point inward toward the center line of the insect, and the margin around the wing is extensive but usually broken in front of and behind the central wing marking. Ground color is generally greenish-brown. A spring-fall species, active as early as early April; scattered individuals can often be found through the summer.
