Round gobies(Neogobius melanostomus) first appeared in the Great Lakes in 1990. They are originally from eastern Europe and western Asia, but were accidentally carried to the Great Lakes inside freighters. Can be abundant along Great Lakes shorelines. Often steal bait from perch anglers. Eat zebra and quagga mussels, which are also from eastern Europe and western Asia. Commonly eaten by basses, water snakes, birds, etc.

How to recognize: The two fins below the body are fused into one fin that looks like a disc. Two fins on the back, the first much shorter than the second. Black spot in the rear corner of the first fin on its back. The nostrils are NOT tubes. Up to 10 inches /25 centimeters long.
