Description 4

Variable colour from white to deep red. Distinguished from other species by small white skin flaps hanging from it's lower jaw (others have them hanging from upper jaw).

Inhabits shallow coastal waters (Ref. 2683). Feeds on crustaceans and small fishes (Ref. 4570). Anterolateral glandular groove with venom gland (Ref. 57406).

Also know as the Red Scorpionfish or Greater Rockfish.

Distribution 5

One of the most common fishes in the Canary Islands and Madeira.

Mediterranean Sea, eastern Atlantic: Morocco to Senegal including Azores, Madeira, Canary and Cape Verde islands.
