The Congo peacock has developed brilliant plumage to attract mates. Courtship behavior includes the male strutting with his wing and tail feathers fanned out, along with bowing and offering food items to the female. The female peahens' feathers are brown and green to allow them to camouflage with the the rainforest floor. For fighting off competition, the peacocks have large spurs on the inside of each leg. All peafowl have their eyes on the sides of their heads, which gives them a wide field of view to be on the look-out for any predators.
