Pinyon Mouse

Peromyscus truei

Summary 2

The pinyon mouse is a mammal native to the southwestern United States, including Utah. These mice are found in Iron, Beaver, Millard, Kane, and many other Utah counties that have pinyon forests. These mice have very similar tracks and scat as other closely related rodents. As shown in picture 3, they leave a 5 toed track with a tail drag mark. These medium sized mice are often distinguished from other closely related species by their relatively large ears, as shown in picture 1. In comparison to their head, their ears are nearly the same size. Pinyon mice have grayish-brown fur with a white underbelly. Their tail is a grayish-brown color and is tipped with longer dark hairs. Pinyon mice are 171-231 mm long and 15-50 grams in weight.
