Blue-leafed Sandmat

Euphorbia lata

Description 2

Plants ascending perennials, often growing in funnel shape, sometimes prostrate in spring, rhizomatous; hairy; generally less than 9 cm tall but may grow up to 12 cm wide. Stems covered with strigose hairs; largest internodes less than 2 mm in diameter at the base. Leaves distinctively bluish in color with strigose hairs, not very densely hairy; lower leaves ovate to lanceolate with a rounded apex and greatly unequal semi-cordate base, usually curved inward on the longest side and curved outward to sometimes inward on the short side; upper leaves linear-lanceolate; all leaves noticeably revolute. Cyathia covered with strigose hairs; appendage absent or present; if present, crenate or lobed. Styles fused nearly all the way to the apex. Fruits with strigose hairs. Seeds smooth.

Habitat and Distribution 2

Common and widespread (Turner et. al., 2003) in calcareous soils throughout the Llano.

Comments 2

Probably one of the most recognizable species on the Llano because of the leaves.
