Cicindela sexguttata

Summary 7

The Six-Spotted Tiger Beetle or Six-spotted Green Tiger Beetle (Cicindela sexguttata) is a common North American species of beetle in the Carabidae family.

Habitat 8

Habitat Type: Terrestrial

Comments: It lives in loamy to sandy soil in eastern hardwood forests and occasionally in mixed open pine forest. It is solitary and found most often along trails and in sunflecks on the forest floor as well as at the forest edge. Larval burrows are found along woodland trails or forest edges at low densities, often near logs or fallen branches on the forest floor (Pearson et al., 2006). Choate (2003) cites it as a woodland path species, quick to take flight or hide in grass. It is active at lower temperatures than most other species (Leonard and Bell, 1999).
