Anthidium oblongatum

Summary 7

Anthidium oblongatum is a species of bee in the family Megachilidae, the leaf-cutter, carder, or mason bees.

Diagnostic description 8

This is the only species of the OW subgenus Proanthidium introduced to the Americas; in addition to the pronotal lobe and scutellum strongly lamellate in both sexes, the female can be recognized by the strongly concave T6 and distinctive mandible with 9–12 teeth, the upper teeth being smaller and often reduced, thus the mandibular margin appearing concave between the large middle and basal teeth. The male is recognized by the median apical projection of T6 and the absence of a median spine on T7.

Distribution 9

This invasive species is primarily found in northeastern North America.
