Hopkin's Rose

Okenia rosacea

Description 3

Bubblegum pink with giant pink dreads, this slug is hard to miss... assuming it's out in the open. More often then not, though, tidepool explorers will find it squished deep inside rocky crevices, offering but a tantalizing glimpse of color. Hopkin's Rose is more common and more abundant in the intertidal zone south of Monterey, but it does show up along the outer coast of the Bay Area and farther north from time to time, especially during El Niño years.
